The convenience of a hotel attached to an airport, particularly if you’ve just arrived after a 12+ hour long-haul flight, cannot be overstated. Hotel rates in Hong Kong are incredibly high and the only Hilton option – to remain in my loyalty program of choice – was a Conrad well beyond my price range. I also didn’t have enough points for a free stay, so I booked myself into the reasonably priced Regal Airport Hotel Hong Kong. Here’s a tip: Booking directly with the hotel gets you free internet (and I also received a complimentary breakfast buffet each morning for a date range-specific promotion I qualified for).
Check-in was quick and efficient, unlike some of the repeated comments on TripAdvisor noting wait times in excess of 30 minutes. Granted it could be a time-of-day issue, but for my two nights there I never saw a long queue at the front desk. I asked for a room facing the airport and had my key in moments for room 1040 on the 10th floor of the 12-story hotel. I entered my room, activated the lights by putting the keycard in the slot near the door and found a comfortable queen bed and generous amount of space.
Lighting, air conditioning and room status notification (do not disturb, make up my room) were all controlled from a unit on the nightstand.
The bed was soft and comfortable and the usual round of international television stations were available (CNN International, BBC, an Australian Network, constant soccer coverage, etc.). A hotel-supplied power converter was sitting on the work desk, as well as a cable for hard-wired internet access and an iPod/iPhone dock.
My view was absolutely ideal being an aviation geek and I spent quite a bit of time the next morning planespotting. I’ll eventually post a video with some of the highlights.
Amenities in the bathroom included the usual shampoo, conditioner & lotion, but what would normally be “on request†at a lot of other hotels were standard here, including a razor with shaving cream and toothbrush & toothpaste. Two complimentary bottles of water were also on the bathroom counter. In addition to a telephone, an adjustable volume knob was on the bathroom wall allowing you to listen to the television while you’re in the shower. Two robes and sets of slippers were hanging in the closet, which also contained dresser drawers, an iron & ironing board and safe.
The Regal Airport Hotel Hong Kong won Skytrax awards this year for world’s best airport hotel and best airport hotel Asia, and I have to agree with those honors. Everything you could need was available at this immaculately maintained property, including multiple dining options, indoor & outdoor pools, a spa, garden areas, fitness center, business center, children’s play area, walking & bike paths and more.
The breakfast buffet opened at 6:00 each morning and absolutely everything imaginable (except bacon) was available, including items you might expect for lunch like fried rice and hot dogs. Service was friendly and attentive and I made several trips each morning. I don’t know why, but I just love miso soup with breakfast.
Be sure to check out the video below as it contains much more footage of the room and grounds than what I snapped in pictures above. Another nice perk this hotel offers is a flexible 24-hour timeline for check-in and check-out, so if you show up at 10:30pm, you don’t have to check-out until 10:30pm the following night. I’ll definitely consider staying again on my next trip to or through Hong Kong.

Now that I’ve had my second stay there, yes, it truly is a fantastic property. One thing to note, however, is my first stay I ended up getting a VIP room. My room during the second stay did not have an adapter, no bedside control unit, limited amenities in the bathroom (but still two bottles of water), and slightly downgraded chair/couch and bedding. Still, though… this is a fantastic airport hotel.
