A brief sampling of industry news that caught my attention today:
- An astute Flyertalk member appears to have discovered what United’s redesigned website homepage will look like. And United has hinted that something “friendly” is coming this Friday. Plus, they even sort-of confirmed it on Twitter earlier today:
- British Airways begins Airbus A380 service today between LAX and London Heathrow. The inbound to LAX is in the air as I type this, scheduled to arrive at about 7:15 p.m. PDT.
- In case you missed my earlier post today, I reviewed the rather underwhelming Air New Zealand Business Premier amenity kit. I was expecting a bit more from a solid Star Alliance airline.

- The Herb N’ Kitchen dining outlet has opened at the New York Hilton Midtown, a move in step with the property’s termination of room service.
- Starwood Hotels announced plans to build the Aloft Durham Downtown, a 134-room property scheduled to open May 2015 in the revitalized American Tobacco Historic District of the North Carolina city.
- Bringing bottled water and other larger liquid items through airport security might be a step closer in the U.S. The TSA has awarded a $6.8 million contract to a company for scanners that can detect hazardous liquids in sealed bottles.
- The air traveling idiot of the day award (well… he was at the airport, anyway) goes to a man who jokingly said his friend had a bomb while he was going through screening at Miami International Airport. Never a faster way to the back of a police car.

On LGA-DEN last week I was talking to the woman next to me, who repeatedly said they should just “blow up the airport and start from scratch.” While I agree that LGA is a dump and don’t disagree that it’s best use is as scrap, I cringed every time she said bomb.
