The Saturday before last I attended an airline collectible & memorabilia show in Los Angeles and then took a side-trip to the California Science Center to visit the United Airlines DC-8-52 on display.
I arrived at the show shortly after it opened at 9:00am and made a couple of passes through the various tables. The vendors had an enormous amount of safety cards, ticket jackets, baggage tags, pins, model aircraft, postcards, and photographs/slides. I have a collection of amenity kits, airline seat maps and glassware for which I was hoping to grow, but was surprised at the lack of these items at the show. It was still a fun experience and I picked up a few vintage ticket jackets (Braniff, Eastern & Pan Am) and first class bag tags. They were also giving out a former show’s bag as an entry gift, so picked up a nifty Dallas 2008 Airline Collectible shoulder bag.
Then it was on to the California Science Center. A representative there commented on my recent Vintage Airline Seat Map post stating that they will soon be including a “DC-8 page†to their website as there currently is no mention of the United aircraft on display. Here’s a short photo & video summary of my visit to the aged aircraft.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing and I hope to make it next year.
