Since this trip was taken exclusively to experience the A380 and given the fact I’ve visited Frankfurt before, I booked myself in the Hilton Garden Inn at the airport. It’s connected to the airport via a skywalk to “The Squaire†building across from Terminal 1. The ICE train station with high-speed rail links across Europe is situated directly underneath the building.
The Hilton is right next door to the Garden Inn and both basically share the same wing of the building. In fact, there are doors on each floor connecting hallways from each brand, though they’re technically off limits to the general traveler.
I arrived early, well before the normal check-in time, but the incredibly friendly agent was able to get me a room right away. It was exactly what I anticipated. Small (standard for many European hotel rooms), but comfortable and it included everything you’d expect from the Garden Inn brand. I chose a room with a king bed.
The desk area features an ergonomic chair, wired internet connectivity and my favorite feature… universal power ports. I still travel with adaptors, but love that many hotels now offer 110V outlets. Wi-Fi was also available, but I always go wired when it’s an option. Both are free, consistent with the brand’s policy.
A water kettle, ice bucket and packets of instant coffee were available sitting above the mini refrigerator.
The usual flat-screen LCD TV sat above a trio of dresser drawers.
The closet contained ample hangars, an iron and ironing board, and a laptop-friendly safe.
The bathroom, too, was small, but immaculately clean. The same Neutrogena products found in U.S. Garden Inns were present and they included shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and mouthwash.
The lobby had the Garden Inn “Pavilion Pantry†with convenience and limited food items available 24-hours a day, as well as a full-service restaurant. The threshold to one of Frankfurt’s main runways is very close, but I didn’t hear a single aircraft as the soundproofing is just stellar.
It’s a great option to consider when needing an airport hotel at Frankfurt given you can just walk to check-in. I don’t recall what I paid, but it was far more reasonable than the flagship brand next door.
