A brief sampling of industry news that caught my attention today:
- After Friday’s edition of Notable News went out, L.A. Airspace reported that Delta Air Lines will begin chauffeur-driven apron service for its VIPs at LAX airport, a similar perk offered by the airline at Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta (ATL).
- Spirit Airlines will begin new seasonal nonstop service between Minneapolis and Los Angeles, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa beginning November 7. I wonder if the DOJ will investigate whether the four new routes will bring airfares down? 😉
- Starwood Hotels is offering 10% off fall bookings at participating Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft and Element Hotel brands. It applies to bookings made by August 23 for travel August 23-September 29. It’s not stellar, but it’s something.
- Holiday Inn is launching a new “Change Your View” ad campaign designed to enhance the brand’s perception. It’s great that InterContinental Hotels Group is looking to update Holiday Inn’s image, though it might be an uphill battle to break my generation’s viewpoint to compete with the likes of Courtyard by Marriott.
- Free Wi-Fi at New York City area airports doesn’t appear to be on the horizon anytime soon. The Port Authority and service provider Boingo each receive $6 million from their deal, a large portion of which gets paid out to the airlines.
- Singapore’s Changi Airport has major expansion plans on the books, which include a huge indoor skygarden (to add to its existing gorgeous gardens), a new terminal and the addition of a fourth runway. I don’t know how my favorite airport could get any better! Click here for additional details.

- Finally, today is National Aviation Day and I recounted my aviation firsts in a post last year. What are yours?
