A brief sampling of industry news that caught my attention today:
- Lufthansa will announce the details of its newest aircraft order in Frankfurt tomorrow. Sources close to the negotiations say the $10-17 billion order for new widebody jets will be split between Airbus and Boeing.
- Turkish Airlines opened its Arrivals Lounge at Istanbul’s airport. It’s relatively small seating only 38 guests, but has all the typical amenities of an arrivals facility, including showers, Wi-Fi, food and beverages. It’s open from 5:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for inbound business-class passengers, as well as economy and premium-economy passengers who are members of the Elite Plus program.
- Chicago’s second Hyatt Place property has opened and is adjacent to the University of Chicago. The brand’s other Chicago-North location opened in June.
- Marriott International opened The Prince Sakura Tower Tokyo this week, making it the first Autograph Collection property in the country.
- The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is embarking on a major expansion program that will see 20 new or rebranded properties open by 2016, bringing its total portfolio of locations to 100. (Hat tip: @LandLopers)
- Los Angeles International Airport opened the new Tom Bradley International Terminal today. Among the new facilities will be a Star Alliance Lounge opening September 25.
- Finally, check out the most unusual solution to avoiding baggage fees: wearable luggage. No thanks!
