I posted last week about the “Geeks United†contest where United Airlines is giving away a seat on the upcoming Star Alliance MegaDo. To enter, you had to submit a “30-second video showcasing just how geeky you are when it comes to our fleet.â€
As I hadn’t bought a ticket for the MegaDO (I really need to next year) and given my relative work flexibility allowing me to travel whenever I want to, I jumped on the chance and submitted a video. The deadline to enter was last Friday at noon, with the winner being contacted via email “on or about October 21.â€
After about Tuesday this week, I had all but given up hope at winning. And it was confirmed today with United tweeting:
Sigh. Ah well… it was a long shot. As I’m my own worst critic, I probably should have smiled, displayed enthusiasm equivalent to a giddy “Wheel of Fortune†contestant and maybe brought out all of my elite MileagePlus cards dating back to 1990. I love this card:
I promised to post my submission once the contest ended, so here it is. That’s a United Airlines “Friends & Family Day 2011” shirt I’m wearing, by the way.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Everything is mirrored and backwards.
Are they going to post the video from the winner?
@HansGolden: Yeah, I should’ve fixed that.
@Kris: I would think so. I’ve been checking hub.united.com for it, but nothing yet. Maybe they’re waiting until the MegaDO begins.
If it had been open to voting, you’d have won mine with “seatmap guides going all the way back to 1979”. Sorry you didn’t win.
How weird – I was on the 777 Inaugural too! LHR-IAD-ORD!
They said on Facebook that they’ll post the winning video after the SMD.
@HansGolden: Thanks – I hadn’t heard that.
