A brief sampling of industry news that caught my attention today:
- American Airlines briefly had frequent fliers in a panic today, as the airline mistakenly added fuel surcharges to certain AAdvantage award tickets on partner airlines (other than the existing ones you’ll find on British Airways and Iberia).
- United Airlines will reportedly announce new transpacific service from San Francisco tomorrow.
- US Airways has moved to American’s terminal at New York’s JFK airport, effective today.
- Traveling to Iraq next year? A new 202-room Sheraton will open in Dohuk in 2014 featuring two restaurants and four (!!) lounges.
- Do you ever wonder what it’s like to be an upscale hotel’s butler? I found the linked interview with The Lanesborough’s (London) head butler rather interesting. Would you ever request a hotel to “make snow?!”

I’m guessing that UA’s new route will be SFO-AKL.
I see AKL, MNL, TPE and HND as SFO routes without a US carrier. TPE isn’t likely with EVA just joining and UA already has NRT. So that leaves AKL and MNL. I’m thinking Gene is right with the AKL guess.

my guess for UA new Transpacific route will be Quanzhou, China, just a guess but I think it makes sense since alot of chinese in SFO

UA already has SFO-TPE available for reservations, although some question if that will actually launch due to EVA. HND can’t be done without slots that aren’t available, AKL is next best, but with ANZ codeshare on that route, I doubt United will take over ANZ market, which leaves CAN, which United announced service to a few years back, but was indefinitely suspended. CAN or CTU is where my money is.
